Sam Little Draws Teachers!

I really LOVE this pin up Mr. Little sent on over to me! Ain't nothing more fun than seeing your good buddies drawn by a good buddy. Make sure to read Sam's Untrue Tales too! I expect he's only got a few more tales to add and then we'll be seeing it out on the shelves. Read it now and you can say you knew all about it back in the day!

Sardine in Outer Space

I've been reading the DUNGEON books by Sfar and Trondheim for awhile now. Completely in love with those books. And I've heard about this, but thought it was a bit too kiddy. But I just saw this at a bookstore and so I thought what the heck. It's not world shatteringly good, but dang if it isn't fun. I think Sfar found that place when you're just discovering how to draw and have so many ideas that it doesn't matter if you know how to draw it, just put what you can down on the paper and move off into the next. Pure raw energy. Not really pretty, but full of electricity. I also really like the format he (and Guibert) used on this. Ten page episodes that all end with the cat saying, "The End." Quite successful. Seems like a good model for collecting a lot of stories within a larger story. I'm beginning to scheme... using this kind of framework for THE IGUANANAUTS...

Vampire Squid

So I've been watching me some Planet Earth. I watched the Ocean Deep episode and now I'm obsessed with the Vampire Squid or as David Attenborough says: The Vampyroteuthis.

24 hour comic

I know 24 hour comic day isn't till October 18th, but I couldn't wait. It was a lot harder than I thought- I guess since I started at midnite- right around the 7th or 8th hour I started to black out. Then, I had a can of Red Bull and was ok for a few more hours. A continuous in-take of sugar, loud music, and caffeine, and I made it to the finish line. Nelson looks like me in the 9th grade. Yeah. I had a mullet. Schweet.
The madness can be read here!

This is page 1 of a blatant spoof of Conan. I guess this would be called a leisure comic- just something I'm gonna do in between bigger projects...

Guy Delisle- PYONGYANG

Just read this comic by this French animator who worked in North Korea for awhile. Didn't think I'd like it as much as I ended up liking it. North Korea is one heck of a strange place.
Give it a read!

Lunch Lady Royale

Something that sparked some ideas for Chapter 3...
I read this and laugh, yet also feel horrified. Kind of like the picture at the end of The Shining...

Oldmando

I went through a phase when I was 12-13 yrs old. Arnold Schwazenegger movies. And at the top of that list was the 1985 materpiece: COMMANDO. I remember reading that there was something like 141 onscreen kills in the movie's 88 min run time. Brilliant. Now I've grown up. I'm kinder, gentler. Fart jokes aren't as funny as they used to be. I like movies with stories, characters, and cinematography. Ahhh, who am I kidding? I'm going to go watch RED HEAT now...
